More Ironing

Had a pleasant morning outside pulling the rusty forks off and replacing them with a set of later Showa ones, which came with a later HD caliper that was supposed to be good... turned out it was seized solid!! The guy i bought it from has agreed to rrplace it with a good one. In the meantime i pulled the nissin
2 pot caliper out from under my bench and tried it for size.... Looks like it will work with a bit of minor modification.

In Peter's box

About 7 years ago i answered an advert for a a set of mechanics tools, i was looking for a spare set to keep at Achnasheen where i work, my own kit was at home 40 odd miles away. An old gent answered the phone, He was moving to a smaller home and wasn't working on cars any more. A deal was struck over the phone, a courier collected 6 boxes containing three tiers of drawers and three boxes of assorted tools test meters. guages and other small parts

When it arrived I was gobsmacked! When he'd said full set he wasnt kidding, all good quality Belzer tools, loads of handy cut down spanners and special tools, guages , files, taps, dies and sockets. In a folder stuck in the lid was a sheaf of papers and a hand paunted sign that said 'Peter Brown'
I phoned him to tell him it had all arrived safely and got chatting to him about the box and his career... Turned out he'd been a race mechanic working on British sports cars in both the UK and the USA doing the rounds of the US tracks before coming back to the UK to retire ...... I still keep his stuff in the top of the box and always refer to it as Peter's box 8o)
